Mark Zillis, hosta expert, recommends the following 24 plants for a good display “ Among white-margined hostas, 6 sure bets are 'Francee' (medium size), 'Frosted Jade' (large), 'Fragrant Bouquet' (large), 'Ginko Craig' (small), 'Queen Josephine' (medium), and 'So Sweet' (medium-large). This offers a complete range of plant sizes, two with fragrant flowers, and all good growers.

Top choices in the gold-centered group include 'June' (small), "Tokudama Aureonebulosa' (medium), 'Inniswood' (medium-large), 'September Sun' (medium-large), 'Guacamole' (large), and 'Paul's Glory' (large), 'Great Expectations' (large) and 'Night Before Christmas' (medium-large) add two top-selling white-centered hostas.

Amongst gold-margined hostas are some of the most elegant varieties available. Our choice of three basic varieties includes 'Sagae' (large), 'Wide Brim' (medium-large), and 'Tokudama Flavocircinalis' (medium), 'Blue Wedgwood' (medium), 'Blue Angel' (large), and 'Krossa Regal' (large) represent three slug-resistant blue hostas in a range of plant sizes, mound forms, and leaf texture.

The huge 'Sum and Substance' has to be one of the two gold-leaved varieties while the fast-growing, fragrant-flowered 'Fried Bananas' would be the second. As for the two green-leaved selections, H. plantaginea 'Aphrodite' (double, fragrant flowers; large mound) and 'Green Piecrust' (large).”

Of course there are 4000 more that somebody loves.
